Treating bruises can really help with the appearance and even the pain of a bruise. Bruises occur when the capillaries release blood into the skin’s tissue. The initial bruise will be dark blue/purple and as the blood is absorbed by the skin’s tissues it the bruise will begin to fade away usually turning brown, yellow, and then back to normal. Usually, when the skin is injured a bruise will result. There are some diseases that may result in spontaneous bruising, but these are quite rare and not usually the reason for a bruise to occur.

There are some individuals who bruise easier than others. Individuals who find themselves bruising quite easily should increase the bioflavonoid in their diet. Capillaries are made stronger by bioflavonoids, which reduces the chances of bleeding by keeping them strong. Foods that are high in bioflavonoids include broccoli, green peppers, lemons, and rose hips. These foods are also anti -inflammatory. It is recommended to take Vitamin C in addition to bioflavonoid supplements if you want to improve absorption.

There are many different treatments for bruises including cabbage. Cabbage leaves are great for treating bruises because they have anti-inflammatory properties and work well for swelling, too.

Another popular bruise treatment is arnica. It has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and works well to reduce pain. Used directly on the skin is best especially when it is part of a bandage.

Some individuals find that parsley works well as a bruise treatment because it is able to reduce the size of small blood vessels. This makes it perfect for treating bruising, broken veins, and the like. The best way to use parsley for bruising is to apply a handful of crushed parsley directly to the affected area. Repeated regularly over the course of a couple days will reduce the appearance of the bruises.

Witch hazel also helps for treating bruises as it is an antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory. The blood is easily dispersed with the witch hazel, which reduces the appearance of the bruises.

A good solution for treating bruises is to also improve blood circulation. When the blood is circulating better it is easier for the body to deal with a bruise and remove the old blood from the skin’s tissues.

Most people don’t bother to treat their bruises and just let mother nature deal with them. However, not everyone likes the appearance of bruises on their skin or they may have a special event like a wedding or party where a bruise just won’t be acceptable. In these cases, using the treatment methods outlined above should prove helpful.
