An Introduction to Bognor Regis, West Sussex

Bognor Regis is a popular seaside resorts in the south of England, in the county of West Sussex. It is approximately fifty five miles to the southwest of London and twenty four miles away from Brighton. It has a population of about twenty three thousand.

Until the eighteenth century, Bognor Regis was nothing more than a small fishing in smuggling village. Eventually became a resort in the early eighteenth century when it was converted and built up by Sir Richard Hotham. Although it took a while for tourism in the area to take off, by the early twentieth century it was rapidly becoming one of the more popular resorts in the country and is frequented by King George V in 1929.

The town has a large and busy town centre which is particularly pedestrian-friendly. There is also a busy shopping area. Much of the town is currently undergoing regeneration. There is currently development plans for the town centre of it is just starting to get underway. This development will include a large cinema, bowling and a number of stores and restaurants.

One of the popular tourist destinations in Bognor Regis is the Butlin’s Holiday Camp which was built in 1960. It provides a large leisure park in doors and a number of other attractions and organizes activities for tourists. The town itself is very lively, having a busy theatre and a cinema and an annual festival which has become very popular. Another thing the town is famous for is the International Bognor Birdman, a yearly competition of human-powered flying machines which comes to town every summer.

Getting to the town is not particularly hard in the town has a busy railway station which is on the West Coastway line. The town also has good road links and a number of bus services run to Brighton and Portsmouth.
